It’s Outline October!

It’s that time of year again! Starting November 1st authors and writers around the globe will be taking to their keyboards to write the novel inside them. The goal of NanoWriMo is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. Granted a lot of writers already have this down pack but a lot of writers don’t. I will be participating this year and Nano is always a challenge for me. I’ve done this challenge about four times now so this will be my fifth go round with two wins under my belt! As for the other two times I tried, well… I have no excuses, I will start off doing great getting the words down and will feel fantastic. For the first two weeks I am good and on board but then I start to stutter and get stuck in where I’m going with the story, ONLY WHEN I DON’T OUTLINE (sorry for screaming). Every year I go back to this video because it gives me great motivation.

Gotta love it! Open Ellbey gives good advice on writing an outline so you practically have the story you want to write and the detail and/or the big picture so you won’t have the problem of getting stuck. For me I am a details writer, so I start out writing down the big picture. What do I want to happen in this book? From there I write down major events. This was a spin off of the big picture, basically breaking down so to speak what major events would happen to lead to the big picture. From there I write down details for each of these events. It helps me form a great outline and I’m all ready to begin writing. I can truly see the 50,000 words accomplished by the end of November.

So to all of you who haven’t tried this challenge and to the one’s who have tried but did not reach the 50k goal don’t fret! If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again! That’s our motto! Never give up! Besides, even if you write 10k, 20k, 30k, or even 40k, that’s thousands of words you have that you didn’t before. If you are an aspiring writer Nano is a good start to get you pumped and ready for the writing world. For those of you who have tried Nano and successfully won the challenge KUDO’S to you! You rock! I can be found just about anywhere on social media (almost anyway). Make me your writing buddy on Nano’s website http://nanowrimo.org, my username is Stephanienrrs1. Let’s keep each other informed and encouraged to reach these goals at the end of the day that’s what it’s all about! Follow me on twitter and tell me about your progress @stephanienrrs1 using the hashtag #NanoWriMo. I am also apart of a small writing group and during Nano season we’re completely pumped and encouraging one another! If you would like to join, you must be participating in Nano and be ready to run! Today is officially the last day of my November virtual book tour. If you missed it, it’s okay head over to the navigation and click virtual book tour 2014. I also want to thank the readers who followed me to each blog. If you did you most likely entered in the giveaway! If you didn’t you still have time to visit the blogs but you’ll have to do it today!

This month was also National Novel Writing Month. Now I participated in NaNoWriMo last year but this year I couldn’t get it done. Womp womp womp lol. I know right. I’m always up for trying it again, I will never stop writing and the NaNoWriMo presents a challenge I believe all writers need every once in a while to sharpen up there writing skills. Even though this years challenge didn’t go down the way I’d hoped, all is not lost in writing land. There are so many stories circulating through this head of mine you wouldn’t believe it. I’m convinced I’m going to have to go back to carrying around a handheld tape recorder to make sure I don’t lose one detail of these stories.

So be it! Where there’s a will there’s a way. I hope your turkey day was grand. Hope your Christmas is even better. If you participated in NaNoWriMo tell me how your experience was and if you won! I’ve decided to start doing giveaways right here from this site. I’ll only announce the giveaway on this site and to the subscribers of my newsletter so in order for you to be in on it you’ve gotta stay up to date with me! I’ll let this post be the first! If you’ve never read the Trouble In Paradise series leave a comment on this post and promise to review it and I’ll pick someone to win a copy. That starts right now!

Did you miss my interview?

Recently I was a guest on The Q-Spot with Michelle Big Body Cuttino on her blog talk radio channel. It was her one year anniversary and she has reached over 12,000 listeners which is a huge accomplishment. During my stay she asked me about the NanoWriMo challenge I won in November 2013. For you who don’t know NanoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It’s a huge fiasco where thousands of writers all over the world get together to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. It was a big task and I’ve recently done this challenge before and failed but this time I was prepared. With my outline in hand I was able to hit the goal of 50,000 words a few days before deadline and it felt good!

We also chatted about my current and upcoming releases. If you didn’t know ‘Wreckless’ is available on Amazon. It’s $1.99 and a part of my Lunch Break series. I go into more detail about the Lunch Break series doing the interview so be sure to check it out.

The Q-Spot One Year Anniversay featuring Me

With the weather being as crazy as it’s been lately It’s good to curl up with a good book. Especially a series. To leave this world and go into the lives of others and experience that kind of escape is good to me. I love reading always have and always will. I just recently finished reading ‘Secret Obsession’ by award winning author Kimberla Lawson Roby. It was nicely done and now I’m reading a book by Nikki Turner. I don’t often read street literature but when I do, it’s Nikki Turner. I like how she throws the love mix in there, if you know me you know I’m a sucker for love. Look out people coming up is my next release also  a part of the Lunch Break series titled; ‘Broken’ all of my books can be found on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, Kobo, and Smashwords. What was the last book you read let me know, I’m always looking for my next good read!

NanoWriMo Day 17 How to cure your writers block

It’s day 17, National Novel Writing Month is halfway through and heading to the finish line. To all of my daring novelist that took on the challenge and are still going strong, kudos to you! It is no doubt that this journey is a tough one. With any and everything threating to get in your way it’s almost like you must ignore all interruptions and be determined that nothing come hell or high water will stop you. Granted, some things just can’t be helped like say; Thanksgiving? Ah yes, the turkey holiday is coming up and will be a distraction for most of us. Meaning we will have to write twice as much to stay on target. I can guarantee you I won’t be getting any writing done that day.

There is also, Black Friday. Oh yes, it too is coming right behind Thanksgiving and once again you can count me out for writing those two consecutive days. What does that mean for me and maybe you. We must go hard in the paint! (Insert laugh here) I am already writing a head of schedule just to make sure when those days are missed I will still be on target nonetheless. Right now my NanoWriMo stats show I will finished my novel by November 27, 2013. That’s three days before the deadline. Hopefully, (fingers crossed) by the time Thanksgiving gets here it will be saying winner 2013. I would like to be more than a little a head of the game.

This will be my first year winning Nano if I can stick to my guns and God willing I’ll be wearing one of those Nano Halo’s as well (laughing again). For you who don’t know what the Nano Halo’s are, they are around the heads of past winners of National Novel Writing Month and they’re too cute! So far, I’ve gotten over 30,000 words down and I’ve got just around 20,000 to go. God bless me! If you’re stuck in a rut and can’t seem to find the words or inspiration. Check out this video to help you get out of your writers block! Or as I like to call it, writers funk!
