A Game-Changing Christmas

Whew! Let me just start with that. It is with great pleasure, blood, sweat, and tears that I bring you this crossover edition of the Falling for a Rose and In the Heart of a Valentine holiday edition!

I have gotten so much feedback about the two families and your love for them both and your desire to see them patch things up that I have lost count. However, I knew trying to create a story like this would be a challenge. Let’s face it, both of these family’s are pretty big, and besides that, the rivalry isn’t something that can just easily go away with a ‘let’s get over it’ attitude.

Nah, the history of this feud runs a little thick, so finding a common solution won’t be easy, if at all. Writing this novella kept my emotions running high, and let me tell you why. We’re catching up with the couples you’ve read about in the Falling for a Rose series, and vice versa for In the Heart of a Valentine. Add a common enemy, a brewing love affair, surrounded by a whole bunch of sexiness and wa-la! Here we are.

I’d like to be clear about the brewing love affair. It is not a Rose and Valentine hookup. The Rose’s are all accounted for. If you’ve read Give Me A Reason, book three in the Valentine series then you’ve met Bri St. James and Raphael Valentine. While their story comes in January, you’ll get an inside look at their brewing romance in this holiday edition, and I hope you love it!

Oh, by the way, if you’d like to pre-order, A Game-Changing Chrismas is available now on Amazon.

Are you up to date on the Falling for a Rose and In the Heart of a Valentine series?

Benjaminโ€™s Breakfast Hut

โ€œGood morning,โ€ a hostess chimed as she entered.

โ€œGood morning,โ€ Camilla replied. She glanced around the bistro, noting the bustling activity. โ€œIt seems you have a full house.โ€

The hostess looked around as if she hadnโ€™t notice.

โ€œI have a special spot just for you,โ€ the hostess sang.

Camilla perked. โ€œIโ€™m following,โ€ she sang back.

The hostess put on a bright smile. โ€œRight this way.โ€ She turned with a sharp twist and meandered easily through the restaurant.

A few busboys passed them as they headed for a table to the far right of the eatery. โ€œExcuse me,โ€ one said as he scurried around Camilla, wiping a hand on the neatly folded apron tied around his waist.

โ€œHowโ€™s this,โ€ the hostess said, stopping at a small table.

โ€œYou did have the perfect spot,โ€ Camilla said, staring out the window to the hustling Chicagoans who strolled through the downtown streets. โ€œNice and tidy, too,โ€ she continued taking a seat at the short table.

โ€œYeah, weโ€™re always crowded this early. Are you new to The Regency?โ€

Camilla smiled. โ€œYes, I am.โ€

The hostessโ€™ eyes popped. โ€œIn that case, let me be one of the first to welcome you to Benjaminโ€™s Breakfast Hut. Iโ€™m Alicia, itโ€™s nice to meet you.โ€

โ€œCamilla,โ€ Camilla said, offering her a handshake.

โ€œThatโ€™s a pretty name,โ€ Alicia beamed.

โ€œThank you.โ€

โ€œCamilla, your server will be with you in just a second.โ€

โ€œThank you again,โ€ Camilla responded. She set her briefcase down and pulled out her cell phone. Camilla could sit for thirty minutes before she made her way to work. The beauty of being on the staff at WTZB was that it was within walking distance of The Regency, which was another plus when Camilla decided to rent a space in the luxury towers. It had only cost her a small fortune to lease the mini penthouse suite, but it was well worth the security and convenience.

She strolled through her missed calls. Two of them were from her friend Corinne Thomas whom Camilla had worked with for five of her seven years at News 12 before Corinne left the studio to become a stewardess. Camilla was also supposed to call Corinne for safe check-in as well, but sheโ€™d yet to do so. The other five missed calls were from Stephen her ex-boyfriend, the last person Camilla wanted to talk to.

After being engaged to Stephen for three years, Stephen suddenly decided marriage wasnโ€™t for him. He called it off the minute Camilla began bridal shopping. Six months later, Stephen was back, begging for a chance to show Camilla heโ€™d changed. For three months, Camilla let him fester and beg like the dog he was, but she eventually took him back. Another two years of her life later and Stephen was doing it again, calling off the wedding. Camilla had had enough, letting Stephen know there would never be another chance for them. That was eight months ago, and now he was back again, ringing up her phone, probably wondering why there was a for sale sign in her yard.

Camilla skipped right over his number and hit send on Corinneโ€™s. โ€œPonyโ€ by Ginuwine cruised through the receiver, and Camilla frowned.

โ€œI was just getting ready to put an ABP out on you,โ€ Corinne answered.

โ€œBefore we can move any further with this conversation, I need to know why Ginuwine is singing to me when Iโ€™m calling you. Is that seriously one of those ringback tones?โ€

Corinne cleared her throat. โ€œOh, so you didnโ€™t have Missy Elliot singing when someone called you?โ€

Camillaโ€™s lips thinned out. โ€œYeah, like ten years ago.โ€

โ€œWhatever.โ€

Camilla laughed in whispered tones. โ€œWhat happens when your boss calls and โ€˜Ponyโ€™ plays in his ear?โ€ Camilla continued to laugh.

โ€œI like how you just flipped this whole conversation around to me,โ€ Corinne said. โ€œI suppose youโ€™re safe.โ€ Corinneโ€™s voice was stern, and Camilla knew sheโ€™d upset her.

โ€œAww, okay, Iโ€™m sorry. Thereโ€™s nothing wrong with your ring back tone,โ€ Camilla lied. She dropped her head in her hand and shook it slightly. โ€œIโ€™m okay. Thank you for calling to check on me.โ€

โ€œI told you I would, didnโ€™t I?โ€

โ€œYeah, you did. And I wish we couldโ€™ve come up on the weekend together.โ€

โ€œOoh, that wouldโ€™ve been nice. Then I could get all up in your Chicago business.โ€

Camilla chuckled. โ€œI donโ€™t have any Chicago business. Yet, anywayโ€”โ€

โ€œExcuse meโ€ฆโ€

The timbre of his voice not only sent a shrill of heat cascading over Camillaโ€™s body, but it also caught her by surprise and threw her off balance. Bringing her eyes up to the mystery man himself, Camillaโ€™s heart skipped a beat as her sight took in the magnificence of his stature. Black suit pants laced around his powerful thighs and what Camilla knew was probably a taut ass. A leather Christian Dior belt buckle aligned through the loopholes of his pants, holding a pristine shine.

The maroon long sleeve button-down shirt stretched up the barrier of his grandiose wall of muscle and waved slightly over the pecs in his chest. With his collar flipped down and the first two buttons undone, his unblemished coffee brown skin was displayed. Camilla swallowed so hard she couldโ€™ve ingested her tongue. Her heart binged in her chest, and Camilla had a hard time trying to recover.

As if the palpitations werenโ€™t bad enough, Camillaโ€™s gaze locked with her mystery man, and immediately, she felt pulled toward him. With piercing dark brown eyes, he held her stare just as his tongue cruised across his lips to wet his mouth.

โ€œI donโ€™t mean to interrupt you, but, thereโ€™s nowhere else to sit while I have my breakfast, so I was hoping youโ€™d have mercy on me and allow me to dine with you.โ€

โ€œCorinne,โ€ Camilla said, speaking into the phone, โ€œIโ€™m going to call you back.โ€

Fever

I woke up to warm soft kisses against my cheek and thin prickly hair tickling my chin. I smiled and moaned softly as the kisses trailed down my neck, chest, then swirled around my breasts. Instantly, my eyes shot open and gradually I glanced down. The sight of Josiahโ€™s sexy, muscular physique and tempting mouth sent a flame burning through me within seconds. I wore only a bikini top and bottoms. It was then that I noticed my surroundings.

โ€œOh my God,โ€ I said.

Josiah continued to kiss down my body as I took it all in. We were laying in a hammock that hung from the entrance of what appeared to be a cave. A waterfall fell over us, and interestingly enough, we werenโ€™t wet, nor were we cold. I moaned when his lips touched my sex, even threw the lacy material.

โ€œWhere are we?โ€

Josiah paused and peered up at me.

โ€œThe blue hole,โ€ his baritone voice rumbled.

Then I remembered last nightโ€™s activities. Once Iโ€™d agreed to go with him, Josiah had taken me by the hand, and weโ€™d driven for about an hour before coming to Ocho Rios. We stopped at a local nightclub for a few drinks and talked about our time in Jamaica, neither of us wanting to see it come to an end with the two days remaining on our trip.

โ€œWeโ€™ll come back, just you and I,โ€ Josiah had promised.

That started it. We left the bar and strolled to the entrance of a creek and found access to a river raft. As we sailed downstream, we kissed. It began moderate but gradually intensified into a passionate dance between our tongues that melted my bones and scorched my skin. I was not the type of woman to hold back. I still wasnโ€™t sure if thatโ€™s a good or bad thing. I hadnโ€™t had any complaints, so I took it in stride. However, in that moment, I second-guessed myself. It lasted all of two seconds before I found my way on top of his lap, grinding through our clothes. They disappeared, piece by piece, and the raft rocked as it traveled to somewhere I didnโ€™t give a damn about. My only focus was on Josiah.

It was apparent that weโ€™d ventured off to the blue hole, and the sex I wanted to believe we had was absent from my memory. I wanted to ask him as he laid a trail of kisses back up my thighs, but I was afraid if we had and Iโ€™d forgotten, it would ruin his ego.

โ€œDidnโ€™t get enough?โ€ I asked, trying to pick his brain without being obvious.

He paused again and cocked his head, amused.

โ€œDidnโ€™t get any,โ€ his deep voice barked. โ€œWe fell off the raft, remember?โ€

My mind roamed for the memory.

โ€œYou probably donโ€™t,โ€ he continued. โ€œWe shouldnโ€™t have had anything to drink before our excursion.โ€

โ€œWhat happened?โ€

โ€œWhen we fell overboard, I had to find you and bring you back to the surface. You werenโ€™t breathing.โ€ His eyes darkened. โ€œSo, I gave you mouth to mouth resuscitation. You came to, choking up water and laughing.โ€ He pierced a look at me. โ€œI wanted to head back, but you refused, running into the water like youโ€™d lost your mind. Thatโ€™s how we ended up here.โ€

I looked over at the waterfall. It hid us from anyone or anything. Watching it from behind was surreal. I then turned to the open cave. Rigid edges hung from the ceiling, and the claylike structure darkened the deeper it went.

โ€œThis is nuts,โ€ I said.

โ€œYouโ€™re adventurous,โ€ he said. โ€œI like it, albeit a bit out of control at times.โ€

โ€œFree-spirited,โ€ I defended. โ€œBesides, I remember someone asking me if I was feeling reckless.โ€

โ€œMmm, Iโ€™ll take that.โ€

โ€œSure you will.โ€ I smiled and bit my lip. โ€œSo what time is it?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not sure,โ€ he mused.

My eyes widened. โ€œWhat do you mean youโ€™re not sure? Oh my God, we have a wedding to attend. Desiree is going to kill me if Iโ€™m late!โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s true,โ€ he said more calmly than I liked.

โ€œHow the hell do we get down from here?โ€

That wicked smile crept along his mouth. โ€œWe get wet.โ€

My body heated at the same time I blubbered, โ€œWha-what?โ€

His deep laughed echoed through the open cave, then he tilted his head toward the water below.

โ€œWe jump, beloved.โ€

My eyes rose in surprise. Without warning, Josiah grabbed me, wrapping his arms around my waist, sealing us together.

โ€œOn the third kiss, hold your breath,โ€ he said.

โ€œWhat!?โ€

He jumped, and I couldnโ€™t believe it. His wet mouth found my face and neck, and by the third kiss, my feet hit the water, and we were underneath the aqua blue lake. His hold remained strong as he swam with me clutching him for dear life to the surface. When we pulled up, I took in a massive breath.

โ€œYouโ€™re crazy!โ€ I yelled.

Josiah splashed me with water.

โ€œYeah, and you love it.โ€
